Welcome to the official website of MisIX
The Mississauga Internet Exchange is now on the World Wide Web!
An Internet eXchange Point (IXP) is a physical location through which different Internet infrastructure companies such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), web enterprises, communication service providers, cloud and Software as a Service (SaaS) providers connect to exchange Internet traffic.
Internet eXchange Points collocate different networks and allow network providers to share transit interconnections outside their own network. By having a presence inside of an IXP location, companies can shorten their path to the transit coming from other participating networks, thereby reducing latency, improving round-trip time, and reducing costs.
Internet eXchange Peering is the method through which two internet networks establish a connection, enabling users to directly exchange data. This process removes the need to enlist a third party to route their traffic over the Internet, resulting in a direct user-to-user connection. This distinguishes peering from the more common practice of transit, where an end user or network operator pays another operator to carry their traffic.
IXPs provide a rich ecosystem of platforms and services. Facilitating mutual peering to enrich IP architectures and provide lower latencies for eyeball traffic. By peering, organisations can generate more revenue from services they are providing. This can generate more revenue due to the following benefits - improved network performance, greater reach scalability, operational simplicity, leveraging a community, reduced costs.
Due to the sensitive nature of our operations, the Mississauga Internet Exchange is located safely underground in an undisclosed location in the heart of the city. Our facility is inaccessible to the general public and requires a minimum Level 2 security clearance for entry. Protecting our network's sensitive data remains one of our top priorities.
